When you join an academy the instructor will be able to show you how to fully use the tae kwon do equipment, you will need guidance and training to use them properly. The main art to learn is striking, especially high flying kicks, although it doesn’t take much to learn these it does take concentration and determination to get them right. There are several different kicks and strikes to learn, you will need to learn them all to be able to compete.
The equipment which is used in tae kwon do is basic but very important, you will need padding to ensure that the blows you are receiving do not do damage to you. These can be an s little or as much as you want to wear. You can either simply have feet padding to protect your own feet when kicking or as much as shin pads, mouth, stomach, face and chest guards.
Whatever you feel most comfortable in, you will find as you become more experienced the padding will slowly be removed. Head gear is now highly recommended when participating in tae kwon do, there are so many cases of head injuries due to martial arts. It isn’t worth the risk whilst practicing or competing, if you take a blow to the head it can be life threatening.
Tae kwon do is such a dedicated sport; you will need to be fully focused during every lesson. If you have a good teacher then should be able to move up the belts very easily. You have to be very fit to participate in tae kwon do, and many people think it is easy until they try it themselves. One of the favorite techniques that instructors will use is the breaking of wooden boards. This takes a great amount of both physical and mental strength; it requires you to focus on nothing else but the power to break the boards. Once you have achieved this art then you know that you are on the right path to being a tae kwon do master.
